During an event in 2018, Smriti Irani had explained why an Indian woman should walk behind her husband. The old video has gone viral on social media.
An old clip of Smriti Irani's speech shared by a TikTok user months ago is winning the internet again after it was posted on Twitter on January 2. While delivering a speech on International Women's Day during an event in New Delhi in 2018, Smriti had impressed the audience with her statements.
An excerpt from Smriti's speech as she explained why women should walk two steps behind their husband was shared on TikTok by a user, Paahi, months ago. In that TikTok video, Paahi set her video aside Smriti's and cheered for the Union Minister as she explained her point.
Twitter, meanwhile, picked up Paahi's TikTok video featuring Smriti and shared it on Thursday, much to the delight of fans.
In her speech, Smriti said, "Toh mujhse kehte hain ki tumi thodi rudiwadi ho. Pati se do kadam peeche chalti ho aur tum jaisi mahilaon ki problem hi yahi hai. Maine kahaa problem nahi hai. Bhagwaan ne kahin na kahin nishchit kiya. Sanskaar kuch aise diye, ki Hindustan ki mahila ne yeh socha, ki pati agar kabhi dagmaga jaaye, toh thaamne ki himmat sirf mujhme hai. Isiliye, usse ek kadam peeche chalti hoon (They tell me that I am slightly conservative. I walk two steps behind by husband and this is the problem with women like me. I said that it is not a problem. God has decided and I have such values. I, an Indian woman, am of the opinion that if my husband ever falters, only I will be able to support him. This is why I walk two steps behind my husband)," Smriti had said during her speech.
